FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE RIGHT TO APPEAR: BRIGHT KONTOR OSEI CENTERS THE STORIES OF GHANA’S STREET VENDORS

MALONE, OH (September 12, 2026) – The Downtown Artist Cellar presents an exhibition of recent paintings by Bright Kontor Osei on October 9 – November 21, 2026, in the main & small gallery of the Downtown Artist Cellar in Malone, New York. There will be a reception for the public from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 9. The exhibition brings the sights and sounds of Ghana’s street markets into the gallery through large-scale murals, painted vendor catch phrases, and immersive sound. In the main gallery, powerful portraits paired with first-person text share the voices and stories of street sellers—placing them at the center rather than the margins. While rooted in Ghana, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on work, community, resilience, and what it means for every person to be seen, heard, and valued.

This project is made possible with funds from the Plattsburgh College Foundation.
